4ft tank pump setup

　　How many litres per hour pump is sufficient for a 3tier over head filter for 422 tank?
so usualy what is first layer,2nd and 3rd..any senior can advice?

hi bro babyboy, im not a senior, hope u dun mind me replying. 422 if filled to e top is abt 480 ltrs of water volume. in my opinion turn over rate shld be at least 2-3 times within an hr. so pump capacity shld be around 1200L per hr to achieved 2-3 times turn over rate in an hr. turn over rate depends on e num of fishes in tank, high bio load requires higher turn over rate. in my 422 im using a 3500L per hr pump to feed water to my 3 tier ohf. as for my ohf e arrangement are as follows: 1st layer:wools/matala mats, 2nd layer: Voca rocks, 3rd layer: ANS Biohome momotaro bacteria hse. hope tis helps

not sure if this is the correct configuration, as I had just changed to this.

if you are keeping planted you can go easier on the turnover rate.

Aquarium:
Im using 4 x 1.5 x 1.5 temporary till my fishes grows bigger Im upgrading.
4 should be able to last U for a year, if youre getting a standard size thats sold(6"++).
Basis rule is 3-4x(L) 2x(W) lenght of the fish.
My new 6 x 2.5 x 2.5 tank should arrive tomorrow.
Actually what fish are U getting? Golden should be 5 Red should be 6.
Trust me when I says that its really a hassle when youre changing aquarium.
1 time give em song song... Your fishes would grow faster as well.

Pump:
Im using a 3500l/h China brand as its temporary.
As for a 4 feet theres no need for an additional power head in the tank to create water flow.
Get a moderate pump that would pumps the water have sufficient water flow.
Not too big... U dont want to stress your fish.
Sump tank:
I top up abit to get a 2.5 for my 4 tank
Ive always like the idea of split level to make full use of the space.
My style is that I dont like my filter sponges to be soaked in the water.
Get 2 sticks of chopsticks or anything support a basket that holds sponge above the water.
Just let the water runs trough the sponges.
Much easier way to change the filter pads as well.
Sump chamber 1:
K1 media... Be patience with this media. Add bit by bit every week.
Im using 1 kg. of K1 in 6" x 12" x 14" chamber churned with a twin outlet pump.
Get the highest pressure twin outlet pump pls. Overkill for a 4 tank already
Ull need an air pump to churn it. The dissolved oxygen would be sufficient for a 4 aquarium.
Dont need additional air in your main aquarium already.
Sump chamber 2 3:
This depends on how deep is your pocket.
Theres so much discussed at this forum.
Your concern is not ammonia nitrite. K1 already taken care of it.
Get something that overcome NITRATE.

I requested a SIDE FILTER in my new sump for SEACHEM DE*NITRATE. It max at 200l/h.
Chamber 4:
Split level again. I let my pump sit on a cut tank divider Bagged Aqua Clay.
Basic rule again: Coral Chips for Golden Coral Claw for Red. Coral Ph UP, Aqua Clay Ph DOWN.
Play with the volume of these 2 to achieve the desired Ph.
Tips:
Whats the regular purchased sponge size? 1 x 3? Cut vertically... 7 pcs of 5".
Adjust the sponge basket accordingly. 3500l/h outflows only uses around 5" x 5".
Back up power:
Dont get a DC pump. Low pressure useless.
The system mentioned operates on water air pump at your sump.
GET A BACK UP POWER FOR COMPUTERS WITH 2 SOCKETS.
Smallest one would do. Ask yourself... How long how often do U have a power failure.
Your 4 x 2 x 2 holds around 450L. With the smallest back up power your fishes wont die that fast.
